Cancellation, non-renewal and refund are different
Cancelling turns off auto-renewal but often leaves access until the end of the paid period. A refund reverses a payment. A chargeback is a bank dispute, not a support request, and can freeze the account while it is investigated.
Decide which outcome you need before contacting anyone. "Cancel my plan" and "refund my last payment" require different evidence and may have different deadlines.
If you bought directly from OpenAI
Open the ChatGPT account that owns the plan, go to the subscription or billing area and follow the cancellation flow. Check the confirmation email and the date shown for the end of access.
If the charge was made through a mobile app store, the subscription may be managed by Apple or Google rather than OpenAI. In that case, cancel in the store's subscription settings.
- Check which account owns the plan.
- Check whether billing is handled by OpenAI or an app store.
- Save the cancellation confirmation.
- Note the access end date before deleting the account.
If you bought a one-time activation order
A one-month activation product is not a recurring charge. There is nothing to cancel in the store, but you may need to stop a renewal in the ChatGPT account if the plan itself is set to renew.
If delivery failed, contact support with the order number and account email. If the plan was delivered to the correct account, the digital product has usually been consumed and is not returnable. The exact policy should be stated before purchase.
What a refund request should include
Support can move faster when the request contains the order number, purchase email, payment date, account email and a clear description of what went wrong. Do not send a screenshot of your full card number.
| Item | Why support needs it |
|---|---|
| Order number | Finds the payment and delivery record. |
| Purchase email | Matches the order to the buyer. |
| Account email | Checks whether the plan was applied. |
| Payment date and amount | Matches the Stripe transaction. |
| What you see in ChatGPT | Distinguishes a delivery problem from a display delay. |
Do not start with a chargeback
A chargeback should be a last resort after a seller has failed to respond. It can take weeks, and the account may be restricted while the bank investigates. Start with the order page and support email, and keep the conversation in one place.
If a seller refuses a legitimate refund and stops responding, your bank's dispute process is the next step. Keep the order record, delivery evidence and support messages.
