The red flags that matter most
The biggest risk is account takeover. A password or login code gives a seller full access to your chats, files and connected tools. A legitimate activation can be done with the account email and plan details; it does not need your credentials.
- Asks for your ChatGPT password or email password.
- Asks for a one-time code from your authenticator or SMS.
- Sells a shared account and calls it a personal subscription.
- Pressures you to pay through a personal wallet or social app.
- Has no order page, receipt or named support channel.
Keep control of your account
Use your own account, keep your password private and turn on multi-factor authentication where available. If a seller needs to verify something, use the order page or the documented support email rather than a direct message from an unknown account.
If you have already shared a password, change it immediately, sign out other sessions and review connected apps. Do not wait for the subscription to arrive first.
Check the payment page
A hosted checkout should show the product, currency, total and merchant identity before you pay. Card details should be entered on the payment provider's page, not in a chat or a plain form on a random domain.
This store uses Stripe Checkout. You should see the Stripe payment page and a receipt after a successful payment. The order page will never ask for your card number.
Demand delivery evidence
The order page should show whether the plan is pending, paid, in progress or delivered. It should also give you a way to look up the order later with the order number and email.
A screenshot of someone else's account is not proof that your plan was delivered. The proof is the status in your own ChatGPT account and a working order record.
Know the refund route before you need it
Read the refund terms before paying. A failed activation should have a clear route to a full refund. A delivered digital product may not be returnable, which is normal for this category, but the policy should be visible before checkout.
Keep the order number, receipt and support messages together. If something goes wrong, a clear timeline makes the dispute easier to resolve.
