The five-plan line-up at a glance
Plan names are easy to memorize; the difference that matters is where each tier stops being enough. The table below focuses on the job each plan is built for rather than quoting limits that OpenAI may change.
| Plan | Built for | Main trade-off |
|---|---|---|
| Go | Light daily chat, summaries and quick drafts | The lowest paid ceiling; heavy sessions hit limits sooner. |
| Plus | Regular personal use across writing, study and work | A shared ceiling; long coding or research days can exhaust it. |
| Pro 5x | Mixed heavy weeks with coding, documents and long runs | Costs more than Plus; casual users rarely need it. |
| Pro 20x | All-day coding, agents and sustained research | The highest personal price; still one account. |
| Business | Teams needing seats, admin and central billing | A workspace product, not a personal upgrade. |
Go vs Plus: the everyday decision
Choose Go when the monthly cost matters more than headroom and your usage is genuinely light. Choose Plus when ChatGPT is part of most working days and you want the standard feature set without paying for a professional ceiling.
If you are unsure, start with Plus and track how often you see a limit message. Upgrading later is easier than paying for Pro for months without using the extra capacity.
Pro 5x vs Pro 20x: measure the interruption cost
The multiplier is about usage headroom, not the number of accounts or seats. Pro 20x is not twenty logins. It is one account with a larger allowance than the 5x tier.
The right question is not "which is bigger" but "how expensive is an interruption". If a limit screen costs you an hour of work a few times a week, the smaller Pro tier may pay for itself. If it happens most days, the larger tier is easier to justify.
- Choose 5x if limits interrupt a few sessions each month.
- Choose 20x if limits interrupt most working days.
- Do not buy either tier solely because the name sounds more professional.
Business is a team product
Business adds workspace administration and central billing. That matters when several people need access and one person manages seats. A solo buyer usually gets more value from Plus or Pro.
If you need one Business seat for a small team, check whether the workspace already exists and who will own billing. Adding a seat to the wrong workspace creates avoidable support work.
Check the live price and delivery route
Prices, stock and delivery modes change. Open the live product cards, confirm the USD price and read whether the product is automatic or support-handled. Then check the account email before paying.
If you still cannot decide, the subscription guide walks through the full purchase and activation flow. The payment guide covers cards, Apple Pay and Google Pay.
