There are three different prices to compare
The first price is the official plan price published by OpenAI. The second is the price a third-party activation service charges for its own product. The third is the amount that actually leaves your card after tax, currency conversion and any payment-method fee.
A useful comparison uses the third number. A $20 headline can become a different total after conversion, while a store's all-in USD price may be easier to budget even if its headline looks higher.

Why the same plan can cost different amounts
Plan prices can vary by country, tax treatment and the payment route. Currency conversion is the most common reason two buyers see different totals for the same USD product. Card issuers also apply their own exchange rate and may add a foreign-transaction fee.
Promotions and regional pricing change over time. That is why this site does not publish a frozen price table in every article. The live product cards show the current USD price, and Stripe repeats it on the checkout page before payment.
- Your card's currency and the store currency may differ.
- Your bank may charge a cross-border or conversion fee.
- Tax can be added based on your billing location.
- A promotion can expire without changing the underlying plan.
Compare value, not only the monthly number
A cheap activation with no order tracking or refund route is not cheap if it fails. Look for a live price, a named delivery method, a public support email and a clear statement of what happens when delivery fails.
For a one-person account, the relevant comparison is usually one month of access versus the time you would spend fixing a failed payment. For a team, the comparison includes admin time and central billing, not just the per-seat price.
There is no official annual discount to assume
Do not assume a yearly ChatGPT plan exists just because a search result advertises one. Personal plans are commonly sold month to month, and an "annual" offer may be applying months one at a time, selling a gift-card balance, or reselling access to an account you do not control.
If a seller claims a large annual discount, ask what happens in month two, who controls the account and whether the plan appears in your own ChatGPT settings. If the answer is vague, treat the offer as a different product.
Read the checkout total before paying
Stripe shows the product, the currency and the total before you confirm. Check that the email is correct, the plan name matches what you selected and the amount is the one you expected. If the page shows a different product, stop and return to the product card.
After payment, save the receipt and order number. The order page is designed to show payment and delivery status without exposing your card details.
